Leo is quite a character – and full on! In fact it’s like having a little person or a dog around. He loves being around people and is stunning to look at with a beautifully marked coat and large pale green eyes. He is a friendly guy and you can’t help but love him
Like all Bengals, Leo will be a lot of fun to live with but he is definitely not a cat who will suit everyone as he is quite demanding, but in a nice way…. If you want a sweet, gentle lap cat – Leo is not for you. He is highly active, constantly on the move and needs lots of attention. Bengal cats like to jump and run, they are alert and loyal, they don’t sit still, are interactive and playful. Leo asks quite loudly for you to notice him and whenever you enter a room he’ll always let you know he’s there.
Leo was a little put out when he first came to SAFE but it only took him a day or so to start telling us he was in charge. Because exercise is limited at SAFE he is a teensy bit overweight but more exercise will easily fix that. When you take him home he’ll probably tell you he’s at ease & want to come out of his safe room but don’t be tempted to let him out into the whole house immediately, because, like most cats, he will be hiding the fact that he’s overwhelmed & actually needs time to adjust. If he seems confident after a couple of days we advise that you allow him out of his room for short periods, but if you go out you’ll need to return him there.
Leo would do well in a family home where there’s always someone around to pay him attention and play with him. He will also enjoy walking on lead if introduced correctly and a large outdoor enclosure which he can spend part of his days in would be ideal. If you are at mostly at home and can provide Leo with lots of stimulation and activity he will be happy, and if you’d like someone to chat with all day you’ll both be in heaven. It can be a little difficult to read his mood and likes to make his own decisions so he needs to go to a family without young children. We don’t think he would take too kindly to sharing your love with another cat but he will probably be OK with a dog
