Joni and her kittens spent the first few months in foster care and once her babies were adopted she came into SAFE.
Joni finds SAFE Haven a very scary place and it’s taking her a long time to adjust to everyday life here as it’s busy, often noisy with lots of different people coming and going and she’s surrounded by other cat smells. When Joni arrived it was all too much for this shy girl and she went into serious hiding mode. She basically shut down and pretended to be invisible out of sight at the back of her suite. But over time, gradually she has is showing signs that she might be ready to start again and when we look back on how she was, it’s wonderful to see the progress she’s made. She comes out of her hiding place more often now and she takes an interest by quietly watching what’s happening around her. She is sometimes even brave enough to sniff our hands.
For a very scared cat to show such courage and curiosity indicates that in the right environment she will gain confidence and grow into a lovely companion. It will probably take time and lots of patience, but she is a beautiful, gentle soul and we know there is someone out there with a quiet home who will show Joni that life can be full of peace and gentle love.
