Archie was rescued from the street as a young cat. We don’t know his history, but when he first arrived at SAFE Rehoming, his coat was unkempt and his spirit shut down. He was so frightened he hid away, unwilling to interact for a long time. But thanks to the dedication and gentle encouragement from a few wonderful volunteers, over the last year Archie has slowly learned that people can be kind—and he’s started to let down his guard. See the photos for the transformation in his appearance and whole demeanour.

With those he knows and trusts, Archie adores pats—especially under the chin, behind the ears, and at the base of his tail and he’ll sometimes roll onto his back, purring and drooling… When he’s ready for attention, he’ll meow, approach and welcome brushes or gentle belly scratches (using a long-handled scratcher is best for now) and when he needs a break, he retreats to his cosy cardboard box.

Archie is quiet and not motivated by food treats though he enthusiastically polishes off his meals. His confidence is growing around new people and recently a newer volunteer was able to pat and brush him with ease—another sign of how far he’s come.

It has taken a while for us to persuade Archie that people are OK. He is gradually revealing that he is curious and affectionate and although his progress at first was slow, it’s now picking up pace and we think he is ready for the next chapter in his life: a quiet, loving forever home.

If you adopt Archie it’s likely you won’t get instant affection, but if you are willing to invest in him and respect his alone-time, a deeper bond will build over time. Based on his current progress, we wouldn’t be surprised if progresses at a faster pace once he’s settled into his new home and it’s easy to imagine that one day, if you are the right person, Archie could sit on your lap. This may never happen or be months or years ahead, but whatever happens having Archie in your life will be enough.

If you have love, patience, and a quiet, adult-only home where Archie’s alone-time is respected—and where he’s given the space and time to trust you at his own pace and love you in his unique way—we believe he will become your most loyal companion.

Come and meet Archie at SAFE Rehoming in Roseville. Let him sniff your hand and he might just choose you. 💛
