💗Aslan spent 899 days at SAFE while we worked out the cause of his relentless itchy skin. After much trial and error, we discovered he has a persistent food allergy—and once we got him on the right diet, he finally started to thrive. Now he is itch-free and enjoying life in foster care as he waits for a forever home. His coat is shiny, his skin is healthy, and he’s feeling like the majestic ginger cat he was always meant to be.
Aslan has settled into a daily routine, starting the day very gently when the kookaburras start to sing-in the dawn. He checks his foster carer is OK by softly pressing his nose to hers and quietly purring – there’s no meowing or jumping on the bed, just a quiet presence… As the day goes by he likes to sit in a patch of sunshine watching …or snoozing a little – like cats do! He ignores the parrots who visit the veranda to eat almonds and shows no inclination to go outside…This doesn’t mean he’s not energetic though…
“He loves to play with a feather on a stick – and he is very good at it. The only way I can win is by having two sticks with feathers. He also loves batting ping-pong balls around the house and down the stairs”.
In the evening he sits on his foster carer’s lap to watch TV and then curls up on the sofa when she goes to bed.
And then there’s food…
“Aslan is very keen on food. He’s on a strict diet of hypoallergenic food. Unfortunately, I am not – so he watches me cook and clear up, hoping for a morsel. I have to be very thorough with cleaning, but that doesn’t stop him from checking anyway. My kitchen has never been so clean!”
Aslan now greets his foster carer with nose bumps and she says he is an easy cat to live with and love. Considering the rough start he had living on the street he is very relaxed with people and generally calm and content. The food obsession is easy to solve by putting him in a separate room at mealtimes with his own food in a slow feeder until you’ve finished cooking and eating. And on the plus side it makes training him a breeze (with his specialised food of course!)
Aslan is a great cat to have as a companion if you’re the kind of person who’s both loving and organised. He is currently in foster care in Avalon so we can arrange a meeting there – that is, if you would like a special lion in your life who is unique, sweet and devoted. Please call us on 0404 753 227.
